Camp Vehicle Info

WANT TO REGISTER YOUR ART CAR, RV, CAMPER, OR OTHER VEHICLE?

Mysteria is a city like no other — and one of the great things about our city is that it lacks the hustle and bustle (and crass commercialism) of the default world. A crucial part of that is keeping our roads pedestrian-friendly — which means limiting on-site vehicular traffic (with the notable exception of Mutant Vehicles!) as much as possible.

Transformus Vehicle Policy

ALL vehicles belong in the parking lot for the duration of the event, unless the vehicle has been pre-registered and approved by the Department of Mutant Vehicles (DMV) and placed by the Department of City Planning (DCP).

That being said, there are certain circumstances which might necessitate that a theme camp or individual participant have ready access to a vehicle. These will be considered on a case-by-case basis; approved vehicles must display their vehicle permit in the front windshield at all times while the vehicle is on site. In most cases, on-site vehicles must be concealed from view. If you or someone in your camp would like to apply for vehicle permitting, you must review this entire vehicle policy before submitting your application.

Vehicle applications MUST be submitted by July 1st, 2023 July 4th, 2023. On-site registration is possible, but placement and permission to park at your camp site is not guaranteed.

Before submitting the application, make sure you’ve read through all of the vehicle policies on this page! If you have any questions related to the policies, please email [email protected] before submitting your application.

Ready to fill out the application?

You’ll need the following information readily accessible:

  • The legal owner’s driver license state and number
  • The vehicle’s make, model, and year
  • The vehicle’s license plate state and number
  • Dimensions of the vehicle, to include length, width, and height
  • Images of the vehicle (not required as part of the initial application, but be prepared to provide images if requested)

Arrival and Exodus Procedures for All Vehicles

Arrival

When you arrive at Marvin’s Mountaintop, your first stop is the Gate. Once you’ve checked in, your next stop is the DMV. DMV Check-InDMV volunteers will check in all vehicles, regardless of whether you will be unloading your vehicle and then returning it to the parking lot or keeping your pre-registered vehicle on site during the event.

Pre-Registered Vehicles:

DMV will give you your official Vehicle Permit, which must be displayed in the front windshield of your vehicle at all times. Once your vehicle is parked at camp, it must remain parked for the duration of the event.

All Vehicles – Unloading:

To keep traffic jams to a minimum, newly-arrived Mysterians will have four hours to unload their vehicle and return it to the parking lot. DMV volunteers at the Gate will label your vehicle with the name of the driver and the time that the vehicle must be removed from the site. The DMV will be patrolling the property regularly to ensure that all vehicles are removed in a timely fashion.

Please note that NO vehicles are allowed to drive on site after dark. If you arrive at Gate after dark (~9:00 pm), your vehicle will have to stay in the parking lot until the following morning.

Exodus (aka leaving Mysteria)

All participants must be off site by noon on Monday!

To avoid traffic jams and ensure that exodus goes smoothly, pack down all of your gear and say your goodbyes BEFORE you retrieve your car from the parking lot. Once your car is packed, you must immediately remove your vehicle from the site.

Pre-Registered Vehicle Policies

Categories of Vehicles in This Policy:

  • Living/Sleeping Vehicles (RVs, tow-behind trailers, pop-up campers)
  • Camp Storage/Infrastructure Vehicles (box trucks, moving vans, small trailers, personal passenger vehicles)
  • Publicly-Available Vehicles (buses)
  • Accessibility Vehicles

See below for information about category-specific policies.

NOTE: If you plan to rent a vehicle to bring to Transformus, see the Rental Vehicle Policy below.

Living/Sleeping Vehicles (RVs, tow-behind trailers, pop-up campers, etc.)

In the past, Transformus has discouraged RVs and other vehicles from being parked on site in theme camps and open camping, instead limiting them to certain designated areas. This was done at Deerfields for both aesthetic reasons and in consideration of the tightness of the land. With our new land, space is not much of a concern anymore; however, parked vehicles in camps are still strongly discouraged for aesthetic reasons. No one wants to feel like they are camping in a parking lot!

Living/Sleeping Vehicles are allowed in specific areas of Mysteria, provided they are approved beforehand by the DMV and then placed by DCP (fill out the application form linked below to start this process). Smaller living/sleeping vehicles can access more of the land, while larger vehicles (over 20’ long) are restricted to areas that are near main roads, less visually prominent, and proven durable to heavy rains.

We strongly encourage all vehicles to be masked/camouflaged in some way: at the rear of a Theme Camp, painted or otherwise turned into a piece of art, covered with tapestries or other things blocking view, tucked into trees, etc. Unmasked or undermasked vehicles may be asked to move to less prominent/visible locations at the discretion of the DMV/DCP, particularly if their registration form specifically stated that the vehicle will be masked. Vehicles should not form walls or otherwise impede the free flow of people to interact with you and the public part of your Theme Camp.

Camp Electronics Storage/Infrastructure Vehicles (box trucks, moving vans, enclosed trailers, flatbed trailers, and personal passenger vehicles)

We know that many theme camps have valuable equipment that might require additional protection from the elements. In some cases, a theme camp might even rely on a large vehicle as part of the physical structure of the camp. To be approved for an on-site permit for a vehicle in this category, you must provide sufficient justification in your application. If approved, storage/infrastructure vehicles MUST be completely decorated/concealed from public view.

Publicly-Available Vehicles (buses and similar)

Buses and such will only be approved for placement in Mysteria if they are open for public use during the camp’s hours of operation OR if they are critical for theme camp infrastructure. Be prepared to explain in your application what your vehicle offers to all participants in order to justify approval.

Accessibility Vehicles

Transformus is dedicated to the principle of Inclusivity — which means burners of all types and abilities! Marvin’s Mountaintop poses some unique challenges for mobility-impaired individuals in particular, so we want to work with you to ensure that you are able to experience all that Mysteria has to offer. Accessibility vehicles include:

  • Mobile vehicles – Art cars, golf carts, etc.
  • Stationary vehicles – RVs, personal passenger vehicles, etc.

Vehicles approved for Accessibility reasons are not required to be decorated or concealed, though of course that is strongly encouraged. You are not required to disclose your disability or medical condition in the vehicle application itself; however, you must contact the Accessibility Team via [email protected] to communicate your needs as part of the approval process.

Rental Vehicles

If you plan to rent a vehicle to bring to Transformus and you want to apply for on-site placement for that vehicle, you still must submit this application prior to the deadline. Since you won’t have a lot of the critical vehicle info (such as make/model/year, license plate number, etc.) at the time of application, you’ll need to note in each vehicle-specific question that you plan to rent the vehicle. When you arrive on site with the rental vehicle, you MUST contact the DMV to update our records with the necessary information.

Transformus 2023 Vehicle Application

Before submitting the application, make sure you’ve read through all of the vehicle policies above! If you have any questions related to the policies, please email [email protected] before submitting your application.

Additionally, you’ll need this information readily accessible for completing the application:

  • The legal owner’s driver license state and number
  • The vehicle’s make, model, and year
  • The vehicle’s license plate state and number
  • Dimensions of the vehicle, to include length, width, and height
  • Images of the vehicle (not required as part of the initial application, but be prepared to provide images if requested)

What happens after I submit my application?

The DMV will review your application to confirm that your vehicle meets all guidelines of the vehicle policy, and that there is sufficient need for your vehicle to remain on site.

If your vehicle meets the requirements, the Department of City Planning will review your information and determine whether your specific placement request can be approved.

NOTE: DMV approval of your vehicle does NOT mean that your vehicle is guaranteed placement. The terrain of Marvin’s Mountaintop poses unique challenges for placing vehicles, and there’s always a possibility that your requested theme camp placement cannot accommodate your vehicle. The Department of City Planning will contact you if they have concerns related to the placement of your theme camp and vehicle.
